Thank you for raising this very important point. Gender as a concept is constantly evolving and we as human beings are a long way from discovering who we are amongst a multitude of possibilities. Tagging a baby at birth with a gender, it’s associated colour and much more in my opinion doesn’t serve any purpose. And as a female who has long suffered from the expectations of my gender role I would have preferred to have a more open and accommodating family of who I am and the person I’m becoming.

This is a topic worthy of discussion and I hope we can all see each other’s perspective before coming to a conclusion.

Exactly. Put a label on a person who just started their life doesn't help.
I suffered from the expectations of my gender role as well. I wonder if some mental blocks I have are related to this kind of family attitudes.
I hope more people share a good input as you did. :)
